PETCO GRANT AWARDED HUMANE SOCIETY OF THE NATURE COAST The Humane Society of the Nature Coast is pleased to announce that they have been awarded a grant from the PETCO Foundation for the benefit of the homeless pets at the Humane Society care center. The PETCO Foundation grant will be used for the microchipping of all pets at the Humane Society as part of their initial intake and examination process. The PETCO Foundation supports the 24PetWatch microchipping program which is detectible by universal scanners. Each year millions of lost and abandoned animals are taken in by animal welfare organizations across North America, of these animals only 14% of the dogs and 4% of the cats (estimated figures) are ever returned home. The major reason for failing to re-unite a lost pet with its owner is because the pets are unidentifiable. Microchipping offers pet owners the only truly permanent method of identifying a pet and linking the animal back to the owner. To improve a pet’s chances of getting home in a lost pet emergency – microchipping is the best option. All animals that are brought into a veterinary clinic or animal welfare organization are routinely scanned for a microchip. In the event that a microchip is located the emergency personnel will call 24PetWatch to see whether the pet is registered in their database. As soon as a match has been made a call is made to let an owner know that their pet has been found and to help to arrange a re-union. All pets registered with 24PetWatch are also provided with a 24PetWatch pet tag. In the event that a pet is still wearing the tag the emergency personnel will know to call 24PetWatch immediately.
The PETCO Foundation is making it possible to provide
this protection to the adoptable pets at the Humane
Society of the Nature Coast at no cost to the shelter
enabling precious funds to be conserved for other pet
care expenses. The public is invited to come by the
Humane Society to view the wonderful adoptable pets
currently available to loving homes and now protected
by 24PetWatch. |
